About The Soap Tub

History The Soap Tub was founded by Sarah and Daniel Janes in 1999. At that time The Soap Tub worked on the Craft Fair circuit in Yorkshire and beyond. At that time it was very difficult to source supplies - almost impossible for things like colour and fragrance, in the quantities that most crafters and hobbyists require. If you wanted a ton of this, or 50L of that, no problem, but, if you wanted a few, or a hundred kg of ingredients, no one wanted to know. The decision was taken to set up a supplies company that encourage others to become micro soap and toiletries makers. Our first workshop, at The Ray Street Enterprise Center in Huddersfield (which is part of the support provided to small businesses by Kirklees Metropolitan Council) was an excellent beginning, but, we outgrew it in just a few months. We then moved to the historic Mill House, at Lockwood Mills, Slaithwaite (prounced slough-it) in the Colne Valley. Daniel Janes office had a wonderful view over the then still maintained gardens and he particularly enjoyed the visits from those researching Mrs Lockwood - a famous suffragette, and campaigner for a wide range of 'liberal' reforms to post Edwardian England. In 2001 Meltandpoursupplies.com had grown to the point where we took the decision to concentrate all of our efforts on developing the range and quality of ingredients available to micro Soap Makers. Our workshops at Regents College, London, and in Huddersfield were proving a great success and we were meeting some amazing people including aid workers from Africa, The Middle East, and Soap Makers from Australia, Russia, The USA, Canada, South Africa, and far too many other countries to mention. In 2004 we had, with deep regret, to leave The Mill House, as the whole area had been acquired for redevelopment. We moved to our new premises at Albert Street, Lockwood, Huddersfield and spent a year converting it to our needs. In 2007 The Soap Tub entered a new phase as Sarah moved to work exclusively as a consultant and launched her independent world of moulds company. Daniel remained General Manager of the Soap Tub and both companies work together to support our training and development and workshops programs. In 2008 we see the launch of The Castle Hill Cosmetics Company as a subsidiary of The Soap Tub. That company will provide further training opportunities and produce a small range of Cosmetics that will only be marketed, sold and shipped to Kirklees addresses. It remains our policy that we will not compete with our customers by retailing direct to the public, however, The CHC Company will be used to trial new products, and create live retail and manufacturing training places in Kirklees only. Any customers wishing to purchase finished products outside of Kirklees will be given details of those we supply or have trained in their own area.
