The Basic Lip Balm Recipe
1 tablespoon beeswax pellets
1 tablespoon roughly chopped shea butter 1 tablespoon grated cocoa butter 1 tablespoon sweet almond oil
1 tablespoon castor oil Optional items:
Cosmetic grade Flavour oil
Chocolate
Honey
Tip: Place the pots onto a tray and place in the fridge to set.
This will prevent any dip in the surface of the jar.
Why not add a little honey or liquid glucose to sweeten the lip balm. For sheer indulgence add a little melted chocolate – yumm!! You can even add a couple of drops of peppermint oil for a cooling touch. If your balm is too hard, simply remelt it and add additional liquid oils. If too soft, simply re-melt and add a little more cocoa butter or beeswax – but just a little :-)
All of these cosmetic ingredients can be found on the Cosmetic Ingredients Page
Packaging for lips balms are below.
Fragrance/flavouring:
You MUST NOT use "fragrance oils" (like the ones we sell for soap and bath bomb making). You MUST use one of the FLAVOUR oils on the Cosmetic Ingredients Page Why? Fragrance Oils are not suitable for lips and possible ingestion. Flavour oils are specifically designed for this purpose.
Colouring: You cannot use the liquid colours suitable for soap and bath bombs to make lip balms and butters. These are water based and the lip balms are oil based. If you wish to colour them, why not use a natural colour by infusing some Alkanet root into the liquid oil for a delicious red colour.
